Currently, 40% of all food produced in the United States ends up in a landfill. On the other side of the issue, 100,000+ individuals in Mecklenburg suffer from food insecurity, including 1 in 10 senior citizens and 1 in 6 households with children.
Feeding Charlotte is a hunger relief, food rescue organization that partners with professional kitchens to pick up their surplus, prepared foods. Volunteers pick that food up and deliver it to small nonprofit feeding programs throughout Mecklenburg county and the surrounding areas. Their focus is on reducing food waste and feeding our hungry neighbors.
